Glacier National Park, MT Itinerary (5 Days, 4 Nights)
Glacier National Park Itinerary
Day 1:
Enter Glacier from the Apgar Visitors entrance, the fee is $35, per vehicle, for a 7 day pass or $70 for an annual pass. The park is open 24/7 365, but Going-to-the-Sun road is closed during the winter.
Lake McDonald |
The first sight to see is Lake McDonald that features a beautiful mountainous scene and rainbow rocks.
It is definitely worth your time to stop here and take in the views & walk around the lake.
Upper Creek Trail (image from when I visited in the winter). |
A beautiful trail to take is the Upper McDonald Creek Trail. It is 5.6 miles, but you don't have to do the whole thing it.
Day 2:
Drive all of Going-To-The-Sun road, this will take approximately 2 hours without stops.
Depending on how much time you have here are a couple places that are worth a stop:
- Trail of the Cedars .9 miles estimated time 20 mins
Logan's Pass |
- Logan's Pass (highest point you can reach with car).
- It is also a part of the continental divide.
- There is a trailhead here and the trail is 3 miles long, taking approximately 2.5 hours.
- Anywhere you see along the way that looks interesting!! You can find more information on trails on All Trials (click here).
Day 3:
Avalanche Lake |
Avalanche Lake Trail is 5.9 miles and will take an estimated time of 2.5 hours.
I would recommend taking this day to do this hike, bring lunch and snacks and take breaks during the hike to take in all the different view points the trail has to offer!
Day 4:
When I visited Glacier I spent a day in Hungry Horse and it was definitely worth it! This town is right next to Glacier and is also a great place to stay in when visiting Glacier.
Things to do in Hungry Horse:
Hungry Horse Dam |
- The Hungry Horse Dam which you can walk around and get some awesome views of (and the near by mountains!).
- Huckleberry Shops there is one called "Willow's Huckleberry Land" and it has anything Huckleberry you could want! I personally love the Huckleberry cream soda.
- There are also White Water Rafting experiences that can be booked when visiting. White Water Rafting Link
Day 5:
There are two other places that are really worth taking a look at that are not too long of hikes:
Sun Point Nature Trail |
